Barely 2 months after he was pardoned by the Adamawa State Chief Judge for theft, a 19 yearl old man, Mubarak Yuguda, has been convicted and sentenced to 15 years imprisonment for another theft.
Mubarak was among 34 inmates discharged by Hon. Justice Nathan Musa, when the CJ's Jail Delivery Committee visited Ganye correctional center in early February, 2022.
The young man who was set free after he spent several months in Ganye prison custody, invaded a house at Unguwan Maiduguri in Ganye town on the 27th March, 2022 and carted away foodstuff and empty buckets.
NEWS PLATFORM gathered that Mubarak invaded the house around 10:00 am when everybody left for work and stole bags of rice, maize, empty buckets among others valued N170.
He was sighted while packing the household items in a nearby uncompleted building where he was re-arrested, investigated and arraigned before Upper Area Ganye on the 29th March, 2022.
He was arraigned before the court by the prosecutor, Inspector Moses Detso, for the alleged offence of "theft in a dwelling house" which contravenes section 279 of the penal code law.
When the First Information Report was read to him, the convict admitted committing the offence after which the matter was adjourned to the 21st April, 2022, to enable the prosecution call corroborative witness.
After the testimony of the PW1 during the court's resumed sitting on the 21st March, 2022, the prosecution closed its case after which the presiding judge, Hon. Mohammed Baba Hammanjoda, framed a charge against the convict of which he maintained his earlier plea.
It was at this jucture that the court in suit number UACG/CR/FI/38/2022 convicted the defendant and sentenced him to 15 years in prison with alternative fine of N150, 000.
