Adamawa State Police Command has apprehended a 55 years old hunter, Yusuf Garba (aka Gana) for allegedly digging a grave and cutting the head of step father.
The accused, Yusuf Garba, who hails from Tappare Kona Uku in Jada LGA had confessed to the heinous crime during interrogation by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje.
Narrating the incident, the suspect explained that the son of the deceased came to him and demanded the head of his father after his demise for ritual purposes.
He said when his step father died, his son tried to take the corpse to Jalingo in Taraba state for burial, but that they refused to grant his request.
He said that a year after the burial of the deceased, his son stormed the house and asked for his head for traditional rites.
He further narrated that the son of the deceased mounted pressure on him, and that he was left with no alternative than to do his bidding, saying " I took a hoe around 4:00am, went to the grave yard, digged the grave and cut off the head".
"I returned back home and gave him the head in a polythene bag and the son collected it and left. I did that out of fear because the son is a witch and can attack me or my children if I refuse to do so". Gana added.
He said after 2 weeks, the wife of the deceased who the son in question inherited came and narrated to him the kind of terrible dreams she used to have since the time the head was kept in their bedroom.
He said that he asked her to bring a chicken which she did, saying he went and digged the grave, slaughtered the chicken and poured its blood on the decomposed body to stop the dreams.
"After I performed the ritual, I went and cook the chicken and ate. I did that for about 4 years ago and because I had a little problem with Benjamin that is why he reported the matter to the police.
The spokesman of the conmand received a complaint from a man, Benjamin Jatau, who accused the suspect of digging a grave and cutting the head of a man.
SP Nguroje said that the Commissioner of Police, CP Morris Dankombo, ordered for discret investigation and prosecution of the suspect.
