ANGRY DRIVER GOES BERSERK, BEATS UP CHIEF V.I.O, INJURES OTHER




An angry driver on Wednesday, descended heavily on the the Chief Vehicle Inspection Officer (V.I.O) and other officials while on duty at welcome to Yola on Numan road.


The tall and hefty commercial driver, Sarki Sanda, assaulted the Chief V.I.O, T. J. Shuwa, during the clash.


NEWS PLATFORM gathered that the driver who hails from old market in Jimeta, Yola North Local Government Area also hit another personnel, Ayuba Luka, in the face as well as bit him.


Ayuba was said to have received serious blows on his mouth from the driver as a result of which he sustained grievious injuries where he expended the sum of N20, 000 on treatment.


Likewise, Sarki Sanda, damaged the wrist watch and the eye glasses of Ayuba, valued N11, 000 during the encounter at welcome to Yola, which sparked outrage leading to the arrest of the driver.


Sanda, was later arraigned before Jimeta Area Court presided by Muhammad Alamin Diya Lamurde, where he was summarily tried, convicted and sentenced to 2 years and 6 months in prison custody.


He was given an alternative fine of N45, 000 and equally ordered to pay the sum of N31, 000 as compensation to the victim.


Upon his arraignment by the Prosecutor, Inspector Coleman Micheal, the Convict pleaded guilty the offences of " obstructing an officer while official duty, driving without national driving liecense on demand, criminal force, assault, causing hurt and mischief".


It was after his plea that the Prosecutor, Inspector Coleman Micheal, applied for summary trial under section 351 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law of which the application was granted as prayed.
