The Federal Government has commissioned newly constructed modern barracks for 500 personnel of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Yola, Adamawa state.
The barracks which is situated at 18 heacters of land at Kwanan Waya along Numan road, was constructed and commissioned by the FG after 35 years since the agency was established.
The state-of-the art barracks has categories of buildings including modern office structures for Adamawa and zonal commands of NDLEA, accommodation and auxiliary facilities among others.
Speaking while commissioning the barracks, the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, said that the occasion marks the significant milestone in the history of the agency in the state.
Prince Lateef, commended the Chairman/ Chief Executive Officer of the NDLEA, Brig-Gen. Muhammadu Buba Marwa (rtd) for demostrating exceptional leadership qualities and commitment to his duty which saw the execution of the edifice.
He said the Chairman of the agency does not start a fight that he will not finish, saying that right from Lagos state, the Chairman traversed nooks and crannies of the society.
He applauded President Bola Tinubu for his commitment to securing the future of the country and Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for his support to the command and towards the execution of the project.
He said that urgency of protecting citizens from harmful effect of drugs and other illicit substances cannot be over-emphasized and urged the officers and men of the agency to be more dedicated in combating drug abuse.
In his remarks, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, stated that the day marks a significant milestone in their collective effort towards safe, secured and drug free environment for all who call Adamawa home.
Governor Fintiri, congratulated the President Tinubu, the Chairman/ CEO of the NDLEA and the entire stakeholders of the project for their foresight, vision and commitment.
Fintiri who was represented by the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Rehabilitation, Reintegration and Reconstruction said that the barracks is a testament to their unwavering dedication to safeguarding the nation and its people particularly the youth.
He pointed out that he recognises the sacrifices made by the service commanders especially the NDLEA and assured that his administration will continue to collaborate with the agency in every way possible and promised to work hand in hand to ensure that the state remains haven of peace and progress.
Also speaking at the event, the Chairman Senate Committee on Drugs Narcotics and former Governor of Gombe state, Ibrahim Dankwambo, explained that the barracks is a further commitment of NDLEA in bringing an end to the hardship of the personnel.
In his goodwill message, the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, who was represented by AIG Rex Dundun, stated, “This milestone underscores the federal government’s commitment to providing a conducive environment for our security agencies to thrive.
According to him, the NDLEA plays a critical role in safeguarding our nation’s health, safety, and well-being by combating the menace of drug trafficking and abuse.
He lauded he NDLEA Chairman/CEO and his management team for their tireless efforts in leading the fight against drug trafficking and abuse in Nigeria.
In his opening remarks, the Chairman and COE of the NDLEA, Brig-Gen. Muhammadu Buba Marwa (rtd), disclosed that their effort is to strengthen the NDLEA and enhance the welfare of its personnel for better performance.
Marwa stated that the year 2025 marks the 35th anniversary of the agency and that over the years, the absence of dedicated accommodation for their officers has led to challenges include exposure to risks to them and their families.
He appreciated Tinubu for his continuous support to NDLEA's mandate and that his commitment inspires them, saying that they are thankful for being beneficiaries of the renewed hope agenda.
He told the gathering that the barracks represent more than a place to live, but reflects the trust and appreciation of a grateful nation, saying the barracks should inspire them to greater service and dedication to their mission of building a drug free nation.
He used the opportunity and commended Fintiri for his transformation agenda in the state and for providing enabling environment for the construction of the barracks.
