Sen Iya Abbas Secures Establiment of Centre for Climate Change, Food Security Mubi



The Senator representing Adamawa Central Senatorial District, Aminu Iya Abbas, has secured the establishment of the Centre for Cimate Change and Food Security Mubi Adamawa State.


Senator Iya Abbas secured the approval for the establishment of the centre dated 6th October, 2025. The approval was granted by the Hon. Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology.


The centre, according to the notification letter addressed to Senator Iya Abbas, forms part of the agency's ongoing effort to strengthen its national presence and enhance delivery of specialised services for the country.


It said that that the centre has been designed to focus on clmate change adaptation, food security research, the use of space-based solutions for agricultural development and capacity building for relevant stakeholders. 


"The Centre will further support national objectives by fostering collaborations with State instutions, traditional leadership and communities within Adamawa State, North east and Nigeria in general.


"The choice of Mubi is informed by the State's significant contribution to the nation's agricultural value chain and its strategic position within the North East region. 


"The Centre is expected to provide direct impact through research, innovation and community centred climate resilience initiatives in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR Renewed Hope Agenda for Nigeria.


"In view of the strategic importance of this infrastructure, it is expedient for the State Government/host community to provide a parcel of land of not less than one hundred hectares within a suitable and accessible location in Mubi for the permanent site of the Centre, Such support will facilitate proper plarnning, infrastructure development and seamless implementation of the agency's programmes for the benefit of the State and the region", the letter explained.


It disclosed that the correspondence serves to formally bring this development to his esteemed attention as arrangements for the operationalisation of the Centre to commence, in line with the approval granted by the Hon. Minister, as a matter of top priority.
