ADHA Celebrates Women on International Women's Day

The Adamawa State House of Assembly has joined the rest of the world in commemorating International Women's Day, commending the vital role women play in advancing society.

The assembly specifically felicitated with the women folk across Adamawa State on the occasion of International Women's Day during plenary session presided by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Bathiya Wesley.

This followed a Matter of Personal Explanation sponsored by the Majority Leader of the assembly, Hon. Kate Raymond Mamuno, of Demsa Constituency.

While speaking at the plenary, Hon. Kate Raymond Mamuno drew the attention of the assembly on the significance of the day and the need to reflect briefly on the progress, challenges, and collective responsibility before them as representatives of the people.

Hon. Kate Mamuno who is the only female Lawmaker at the assembly, told the assembly that the day is being celebrated on the 8th March every year.

She disclosed that the occasion provides important opportunity to recognise the invaluable contributions of women to national development, governance, community leadership, and the socio-economic advancement of our society.

She said, "It is also a moment to acknowledge the resilience, strength, and determination of women who continue to break barriers and contribute meaningfully in every sphere of life.

"While we celebrate the achievements recorded over the years, it is equally important to note that many women still face numerous challenges including limited access to opportunities, economic inequality, and under-representation in decision-making processes.

"These realities remind us that the pursuit of gender equity and inclusion remains a collective duty that requires deliberate policy actions and sustained commitment.

She explained that as lawmakers they have a unique responsibility to continue promoting legislation, policies, and programmes that empower women and girls, protect their rights, and create an enabling environment where they can thrive and contribute their full potential to the growth of our nation.

She used the opportunity and saluted the courage and determination of women across the state and the entire country, particularly those who continue to serve their communities in various capacities.

She also commended the assembly for the support it has consistently shown towards initiatives that promote gender inclusion and development.

Speaking on the motion while presiding over the sitting, the Speaker of the assembly, Rt. Hon. Bathiya Wesley, congratulated the women on behalf of the assembly and urged them not to relent in their struggle for the development of the society.
