Fake Police Inspector identified as Abdullahi Yakubu, was on Monday, convicted and sentenced to 3 years inprisonment by the Chief Magistrate court I in Yola, Adamawa state.
Abdullahi who was parading himself as "Inspector Ibrahim" bagged 3 year prison term for offence of impersonation contrary to section 145 of the penal code law with N100, 000 option of fine.
He was discharged and acquitted by the magistrate court presided by Abdullahi Mohammed Digil, for the offence of "being in possession of hard drugs" for lack of eveidence.
The convict, an indigent of Garkida in Gombi LGA, claimed to be inspector Ibrahim attached to D4 of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Police headquarters in Yola.
The fake police officer stormed Jimeta ultra modern market sometimes in February, 2022 where he met a business man identified as Shafiu Salisu, and introduced himself as Inspector Ibrahim.
He told Shafiu that he was assigned to look for the Chairman of Gold and Jewelries and that he should be directed to his office.
Shafiu was said to have told him that the chairman was not in the market, and however referred him to the vice chairman of the union at the Jimeta Shopping complex.
The business man who became suspicious of the convict, rushed to the complex after him, but was told by the vice chairman that nobody came to him.
Likewise, on the 17th March, 2022, the impostor met Shafiu again where he introduced himself as an inspector attached to D4, and that he was on assignment and needed some money to execute it.
Shafiu was said to have made some enquiries but was told that the man is impersonating police where he was immediately apprehended. He confirmed to the police during investigation that he was not a police officer.
The convict who was earlier arraigned before the court by seargent Galeon Nimrod, pleaded guilty and said "it was a mistaske" and pleaded with the court to forgive him.
