Mr Phineas Padio has been elected as the Chairman Correspondents' Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Adamawa state.
Padio who reports for Sahara reporters, beat 2 opponents to emerge the new chairman of the chapel on Saturday.
He scored 23 votes to defeat Umar Dankano of Peoples Daily who polled 13 votes and Daji Sani of This Day newspapers who scored no vote.
Other officials of the chapel who emerged unopposed include; Ibrahim Kado, Vice Chairman, Percy Dabang, Secretary, Auwal Umar, Financial Secretary, while the post of Treasurer goes to Amina Abdullahi among others.
The new leadership of the chapel has since been inaugurated and expected to pilot the affairs of chapel for the next 3 years.
Inaugurating the exco, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists(NUJ) Adamawa state council, Comrade Ishaka Donald Dedan, charged them to strictly adhere to the provisions of constitution guiding the profession.
Comrade Dedan, commended the members of the pen profession for their disposition and high sense of maturity before, during and after the exercise.
He appealed to Mr. Padio's led exco to be fair, just and transparent while steering the affairs of the chapel, and congratulated them over their victory.
In his remarks, the Vice Chairman of the NUJ Northeast zone, Mr. Zare Baba, congratulated the new exco, saying that the exercise has opened a new chapter of understanding and team work.
Mr. Zare Baba, reminded them that in any contest there must be a winner and a looser, and urged them to work in unity in the interest of profession
In his acceptance speech, the newly elected Chairman, Mr. Phineas Padio, thanked the members for their support and promised to justify the confidence reposed in him.
He assured them of his readiness to take the chapel to the greater height.
