MAN BEATS 75 YR OLD FATHER WITH STICK TO DEATH IN ADAMAWA



A 31-year-old man identified as Nicodemus Ignatius has been arrested by the police in Adamawa state for allegedly beating up his 75-year-old father to death.


Nicodemus, who hails from Unguwan Bistel in Song town, Song Local Government Area, was alleged to have murdered his father on the 3rd March, 2022 shortly after he had returned from a joint.


NEWS PLATFORM learnt that Nicodemus had returned home at about 8:00 pm on that fateful day and met his late father and mother in the room and decided to lock both of them.


It was further learnt that the 75 year Ignatius who was afraid of the possibility of his son setting the room ablaze, jumped through the window, but unknown to him that his son had since armed himself with a stick.


It was at this juncture that the suspect pounced on his father and hit him with the stick on the head to the extend of breaking his head which resulted in his untimely death.


A source told NEWS PLATFORM that the accused had threatened to kill the old man in 2021, as a result of which he was arrested and detained at the police station in Song.


The source added that it was due to the love the deceased had for his son that he went to the police station where he secured his release from the cell. 


While giving the account of the incident to NEWS PLATFORM who was at the Criminal Investigation Department(CID) police headquarters in Yola on Wednesday, Nicodemus confessed to beating up his father with a stick to death.


Nicodemus who could not give a cogent reason as to why he committed the heinous crime, stated that he smoked Indian hemp on that fateful day and bitterly regretted his action.


When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, confirmed the incident, adding that the suspect had confessed to the crime.


DSP Nguroje added that the accused will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation, and cautined the general public to desist from taking laws into their own hands.
