JUST IN: ADHA DIRECTS LGCs TO REPAIR RURAL ROADS DAMAGED BY FLOODING



Adamawa State House of Assembly on Tuesday, directed Chairmen of the 21 Local Government Councils to urgently commence repairing of rural access roads badly damaged by the flooding. NEWS PLATFORM can report.


The Assembly specifically tasked the Chairmen of Girei and Demsa LGCs respectively to as matter of urgency embark on the repair/ filling of potholes on Hayin Gada-Borrong road.


Likewise, the Legislators have called on the Ministry of Rural Infrastructure and Community Development to ensure that the rural roads rehabilitated by the Rural Access Mobility Road Projects(RAMP 2) are being maintained by the agency.


It also directed its Committee on Rural Infrastructure and Development to liaise with the aforementioned ministry and the LGCs towards ensuring the maintenance of RAMP 1 roads.


The hallowed chamber passed the resolution during plenary session after the adoption of a motion of urgent public importance sponsored by Hon. Kate Raymond Mamuno (Demsa).


Speaking on the motion, the member representing Shelleng constituency, Hon. Abubakar Isa, told the house that the rural roads have become nightmare for commuters and residents.


Hon. Isa, observed that most of the roads were washed away by the 2022, flooding and stressed the need for government's intervention to address the plight of their people.


The legislator informed his colleagues that if the roads are left in its present condition, no vehicle can ply on it in the next 3 years not to talk of transporting goods and services to local markets.


He urged the assembly to mandate relevant authorities to urgently repair various rural roads in order to ameliorate the suffering of their electorate.


Presiding over the sitting, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Aminu Iya Abbas, explained that RAMP-1 hundred percent handed over roads it had rehabilitated to the government because there was no agreement for maintenance.


While for RAMP-2, the Speaker stated that there was agreement for the maintenance of the roads, and detailed the affected committee to find out whether or not RAMP -2 is maintaining its roads.


He directed the clerk to the assembly to communicate all the resolutions passed to the relevant authorities for necessary action in the interest of their constituents.
