YOLA COURT SENTENCES MAN TO 11 YRS IN PRISON FOR INSULTING POLICE BOSS



An Upper Area Court 4 in Adamawa State has convicted and sentenced a man to 11 years and 6 months in prison for insulting the Commissioner of Police, S. K. Akande.


The court presided by Hon. Ibrahim Musa Ulenda, sentenced the convict, Samaila Abdullahi, after he was arraigned before him by the prosecutor, Inspector Coleman Micheal.


The convict was sentenced to 6months, 2 years, 7 years and 2 years respectively with N25, 000, N80, 000, N100, 000 and N80, 000 option of fine on the 4 offences of which he was jailed.


Abdullahi, of Wauru Jabbe in Yola South LGA, was earlier arraigned for criminal tresspass, unlawful seisure, intentional insult and resistance of arrest.


According to the prosecution, the aforementioned offences contravened sections 333, 137, 885 and 140 of penal code law.


While prosecuting the case, Inspector Coleman, informed the court in the First Information Report he had tendered in court that the convict was arraigned on the 1st November, 2022.


He told the court that Abdullahi, trespassed into the shop of one Ashraf Adamu, on the 5th July, 2022, and took his generator valued N170, 000, until the day of his arrest.


NEWS PLATFORM learnt that the convict took the generator at the sum of N20, 000 balance he was owed by Ashraf Adamu.


But when he was invited by the police at the Kofare Divisional headquaters, he refused to honour the invitation until when 4 police officers were drafted who eventually arrested him.


Having noticed that the police were at his residence to arrest him, the convict locked the gate from inside, and told the police that he does not see anybody who can arrest him.


While in a phone conversation with the police, Abdullahi, was said to have rained insults on the police officers as well as the CP himself.


When the content of the First Information Report was read to him upon arraignment, the convict pleaded guilty to all the allegations hence his conviction.
