TWO MEN STEAL N22M ELECTRICITY CABLES BELONGING TO DANGOTE SUGAR COMPANY



The Chief Magistrate Court I sitting in Yola, Adamawa State has ordered the remand of 2 people for allegedly vandalising 68 electricity poles as well as theft of over N22 million cables belonging to Savannah Sugar Company.


The court presided by the Chief Magistrate Muhammed Njidda Fufore, remanded the 2 defendants including Elijah Zira and Edan Ayuba, after they were arraigned them before him.


Magistrate Njidda, remanded the defendants in prison custody for the offences of criminal conspiracy, mischief in relation to electricity and telecommunication and theft.


Both defendants pleaded not guilty to all the allegations levelled against them by the prosecution which contravened sections 60, 325 and 276 of the Penal Code law 2018.


The prosecuting police officer, ASP Francis Audu, told the court that the defendants perpetrated the crime on the 17th April, 2024, at Savannah Sugar Company. 


He said that the Chief Secretary Officer of the Company, Yunade Lasisi, had reported to the police that while on routine patrol, discovered that 68 electricity poles of their ongoing electricity project were vandalised and cables worth over N22 million were stolen.


The Security Officer told the police that the during their investigation, they discovered the cables under the custody of the defendants in Numan LGA.


ASP Francis further informed the court that the matter is still being investigated and applied that more time be given to the Investigative Police Officers to complete investigation.


The court granted the application after the defendants held no objection to it and adjourned the matter to the 22nd May, 2024.
