BREAKING: COURT REMANDS REGISTRAR LEGAL STUDIES YOLA FOR BEATING UP CHIEF FEMALE LECTURER

The Chief Magistrate Court 3 sitting in Yola, Adamawa State on Friday, remanded the Acting Registrar College for Legal Studies, Yola, Musa Chiroma, in prison custody for the offences of assault and causing of grievous hurt.

The court presided by the Chief Magistrate Uwani Muhammed Danladi, remanded the registrar after he was arraigned before her by the Prosecutor, Inspector Abubakar Nurudeen, from State Intelligence Department.

Musa Chiroma, was remanded at the correctional center for the offences of assault, criminal force to deter public servant from discharging her lawful duty and voluntary causing of hurt contrary to sections 244 and 219 of the penal law 2018.

The registrar landed in prison for beating up Fatimatu Musa (Mrs.), Assistant Chief Lecturer with the college who is also the Chairman Task Force Committee for the Enforcement of Payment of School Fees in the institution.

Fadimatu, a house wife was ruthlessly dealt with by the registrar while enforcing the rules laid down by the institution in preventing any student who could not tender evidence of payment of the requisite fees from writing the examination.

It was learnt that the Lecturer had while performing her duty as Chairman Taskforce on the 15th April, 2024, prevented a particular student who did not pay his mandatory fees to enable him write exams.

It was as a result of her action that the registrar stormed the examination hall in full glare of the students and violently slapped his victim 3 times, pushed her down on the ground and continued beating her.

The victim was rescued by one Mallam Babangida lya, a non- academic staff as the registrar had pinned her down and continued to rain blows on her.

On his arraignment, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the allegations levelled against him by the prosecution.

In his bail application, Counsel to the defendant, S. N. Agaecheta, pleaded with court to grant his client bail on most liberal terms as the offences are bailable, assuring that his client will not jump bail.

Agaecheta, told the court that the grounds raised by the prosecution against bail application is not a legal ground, saying that the fact that the police is still investigating the case is more than enough to grant his client bail.

Responding, the Prosecutor, Inspector Abubakar Nurudeen, vehemently objected to the application on grounds that the matter is still under investigation, saying that admitting him to bail will jeorpadise their investigation.

He informed the court that some of the witnesses they intend to call are students, alleging that the defendant had threatened to expel any student who dare to give evidence before the court.

He pleaded with the court to discountenance with the application of the defence counsel and remand the defendant at correctional centre to enable police complete investigation.

Thereafter, the presiding judge, Magistrate Uwani, adjourned the matter to the 13th May, 2024, for ruling on the bail application and ordered that the defendant be remanded till then.

Some members of the Nigeria Bar Association( NBA) Women Forum were in court to ensure that justice is done in the case.
