ADAMAWA: MAN HITS FRIEND WITH A HOE ON THE HEAD TO DEATH





A middle age man, Gambo Shimyangei, has been arraigned before Adamawa State High Court of Justice over alleged culpable homicide.


The defendant who hails from Shafan community in Lamurde LGA, Adamawa State was arraigned before Hon. Justice Ishaku Haliru Yakubu, for the alleged offence preferred against him.


Gambo is facing trial for the aforementioned offence which contravenes section 192 (a) of the Penal Code law 2018.


The defendant allegedly caused the death of Kpeshi Hananiah by hitting him with a hoe on his head with the intention of causing his death.


The victim engaged the defendant in wrestling on the 14th June, 2023 which the defendant refused and became aggressive.


Provoked by the victim' s action, the defendant decided to report the matter to his father and while on his way to report the matter, he sighted a hoe and picked it up.


Armed with the hoe, the defendant returned back at the scene and hit the deceased on the head thereby sending him to his early grave.


On his arraignment, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the alleged offence.


Thereafter, the prosecuting Counsel, A.A. Yakubu (Senior State Counsel I) sought for an adjournment to enable him assemble witnesses for the purpose of proving his case.


After the case was called, Counsel to the defendant M. J. applied that the bail granted to his client by the Committee of Prerogative Mercy be extended.


He told the court that the defendant came to the court on his own, and that the bail be extended on the same terms.


Ruling, the judge, granted the application and said that the defendant's bail continues on terms granted by the committee and adjourned the matter to the 23rd May, 2024 for hearing.
