ADHA: BILL TO UPGRADE COLLEGE OF AGRIC GANYE, ACCESS TETFUND GRANT SCALES 1ST READING



Determined to upgrade the status of the College of Agriculture Ganye, the member representing Uba/Gaya constituency at the Adamawa State House of Assembly, Hon. Eng. Adum John Alaba, has initiated a bill to expand the college in order to cater for the educational needs of the citizens.


The lawmaker is seeking legal backing to upgrade the College to College of Agriculture, Science and Technology Ganye so as to introduce new courses, departments, attract grant from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TEFfund) and more investment.


At the resumed plenary on Wednesday, during which the bill was read for the 1st time following a motion by its sponsor, the lawmakers were unanimous in their support for the expansion of the institution.


After the 1st reading of the bill, the Speaker of the assembly, Rt. Hon. Bathiya Wesley, who presided over the sitting, directed the Chairman Rules and Business of the assembly to schedule it for 2nd reading.


The bill is tagged, "A Bill for a Law to Repeal College Agriculture Ganye, Law No. 15 of 2016 and e-enact, Adamawa State College of Agriculture, Science and Technology Ganye and to provide for other matters incidental thereto".


Speaking to News Platform on the merits of the bill, the Sponsor, Hon. Eng. Adum John Alaba, said that upgrading the college will enable it access grant from Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TEFfund), introduce more courses as well as attract accreditation.


"Presently, there are courses that the institution cannot offer. Our plan is to upgrade the school to our standard because at the moment, it is more of monotechnic", said Hon. Alaba.


The legislator disclosed that it is the policy of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, led adminstration to improve tbe standard of the institution for the benefit of the entire citizens.
