ADAMAWA GOVT EXPENDS #1.1 BILLION MONTHLY IN SERVING DEBTS - PROF BAWA

A University Don, Professor Ahmed Bawa Bello of the Department of Accountancy, Modibbo Adama University of Technology (MAUTECH), Yola, says Adamawa state Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has been paying the whooping #1.1 billion monthly in servicing the debts he inherited.

Professor Bawa who was speaking exclusively to NEWS PLATFORM against the backdrop of COVID 19 pandemic on Wednesday, said that at the moment, the government of the day is battling with the monumental debts profile inherited from the past governments.

He explained that many people do not even understand how sympathetic this government is to the civil servants, saying if it were to be a different person, February and March salaries would not have been paid in the state.

According to him, the revenue of the government has drastically gone down, and added that many people do not even understand that the government is servicing the debts inherited every month, saying that what is left at the end of the month is not significant.

He further pointed out that the government had to make sacrifices of all other expenditures in order to attend to the salary of the workers, saying that there some states and Federal Parastatals that have not been able to pay salaries.

Professor Bawa stated that he is afraid if the pandemic (COVID -19) is not contained in good time, the state and country at large will fall back to recession, saying that Nigeria depends largely on crude oil which according to him its price had gone down to $19 dollars per barrel.

He disclosed that the society is lucky that the price is now going up, saying that the falling which was largely caused by the dreaded disease had impacted negatively on the economy of the world.
