FINTIRI TO CITIZENS: FLOUT C-19 LOCKDOWN ORDER, GET 6 MONTHS JAIL TERM


Any Adamawa citizen who violates Health Protection (Coronavirus) Restriction Adamawa State Regulations 2020 Order, which came into force on Tuesday 31st March, 2020, will be sent to prison for 6 months or liable to #50,000 fine, says Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri.

Governor Fintiri further explained that any person who fails to comply with the provisions of Executive Order will be convicted for 6 months imprisonment or pay fine not exceeding N50,000.00 or get both.

This is contained in a statement signed by the Press Secretary to the Governor, Humwashi Wonosikou and made available to NEWS PLATFORM in Yola, the state capital Wednesday.

According to the statement, the Executive Order as signed by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri on Wednesday is aimed at giving legal backing to the measures taken to contain the spread of Covid-19 throughout the State.

Fintiri added that the Restriction Order has prohibited persons from leaving their homes without reasonable excuse except he or she is to obtain basic necessities such as food, drugs and water within 2 weeks as directed.

As from the commencement of the order, he added that only those seeking for medical attention, providing care and assistance to a vulnerable persons, donating blood or for the purpose of work are exempted and classified as essential services.

"Government expects citizens to exercise caution when considering any undertaking outside those exceptions specifically allowed, as they may have to justify that to the police or other law enforcement agencies and the courts".

Under the regulation according to him, the police or law enforcement agencies may use reasonable force if there are reasonable grounds to suspect that a person may be carrier of the dreaded Coronavirus, and there is a risk that the person might infect others.

He told the citizens that the purpose of the Order is to protect them, and in furtherance to public safety which according to him is the fulcrum of any responsible government.

More so, he averred that it is an offence under the Restriction Order for a person to provide false or misleading information, or to obstruct any person lawfully enforcing its provisions, without reasonable excuse.

The statement stated that the Governor is empowered to extend the enforcement of the regulations to a particular period of time as circumstances my warrant.
