In an effort to ascertain the readiness of the state Government in containing possible outbreak of Coronavirus, the Adamawa State House of Assembly Ad Hoc Committee on Coronavirus has undertaken an assessment tour of health facilities provided to that effect.
Some of the facilities/structures inspected by the members of the committee included Psychiatric Unit in Specialists Hospital, Pastoral Centre donated by Catholic Bishop, Dani Mamza, a newly constructed Clinic by Bishop Makanto of Upper Room Cathedral, and an house constructed by Musa Garba.

The membership of the Ad Hoc include; Hon. Hamidu Sajo Lekki( Yola North) Chairman, Rt. Hon. Kabiru Mijinyawa(Yola South) Vice Chairman, Hon. Wesley Bathiya(Hong), Hon. Adwawa Donglock(Guyuk), Hon. It was in the fulfilment of its mandate that the House Committee visited the State Committee where they interacted extensively and promised to join forces towards curbing the dreaded pandemic in the event of any outbreak in the state.
Speaking while leading members of the Ad Hoc Committee during an oversight function on the facilities today, the Vice Chairman of the Committee and former Speaker of the House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Kabiru Mijinyawa(Yola South) said that committee was at the office of the Secretary to State Government (SSG ) primarily for an on the spot assessment of the facilities so far provided.
Rt. Hon. He applauded the measures adopted to that effect by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri led administration in the state, and reiterated the commitment of the house committee to join forces with the state committee with a view to preventing the disease from coming into the state.
Responding, the Chairman State Covid -19 Containment Committee and SSG, Mallam Bashir Ahmad told the members that the committee had put in the best towards preventing the spread of the disease to Adamawa.
Mallam Ahmad said that the disease is real, but that unfortunately many citizens could not believe it, saying that the major challenge of his committee at the moment is lack of understanding on the part of the citizens on the dangers of the pandemic.
According to him, if nations that are technologically advanced and economically buoyant are in shamble because of the impact of the disease on their citizens and economy, one could not imagine what will happen to state like Adamawa.
He told the Honourable Members that the regular hand washing, social distancing and avoiding crowded places still remain the only preventive measures against the deadly disease, pointing out that at the moment, the state is yet to record any outbreak of the pandemic.
Baring his mind, a member of the State Committee and Chairman Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Bishop Dami Mamza appealed for concerted efforts towards curtailing the spread of the disease, calling on the legislators to make sacrifices at this critical time of the need.
