COVID -19: ADAMAWA CP DIRECTS DCP TO MONITOR ENFORCEMENT


As lockdown order imposed in Adamawa state by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri enters its third day, the Commissioner of Police in state, CP Audu Madaki has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in charge of Operations to monitor how the lockdown order is being enforced.

According to CP Madaki, the DCP and other officers are expected to embark on monitoring and supervision, so as to assess the level of compliance with the order, and at the same time how officers and men of the command are enforcing it.

However, the CP has warned both commercial motorists and other individuals who convert their private vehicles for the purpose of carrying passengers to desist forthwith or incur the wrath of the law.

A statement signed by the spokesman of the Command, DSP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje and made available to newsmen in Yola, the Adamawa state capital on Friday, said that the CP had given the matching order so as to know the level of compliance throughout the state.

It added that the CP had ordered the DCP to ensure that the lockdown order as signed by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri is carried out as provided, saying that the police will not take it lightly to those who violate the order, and that the order will be enforced fully.

The DCP Operations according to the statement, will  immediately embark on monitoring how their officers and men deployed to enforce the order are firing, warning them not to infringe or trample upon the right of the citizens while performing their duties.

He reminded them that persons on essential duties are exempted from the restriction order, calling on them to accord such individuals due respect as well as access to and fro to their places of duty.

 Furthermore, he advised the affected officers deployed to enforce the restriction order to be professional, humane and tactful and must show utmost respect to the citizens.

The CP has equally charged Area commanders across the state to ensure adequate supervision of personnel under their watch, as well as due compliance with the Standard Operating Procedure guiding this special task.

The Area commanders and DPOs are expected to ensure robust anti - crime patrol and surveillance around vulnerable targets such as medical facilities, shops and markets, residential areas, financial institutions: Automated Teller Machines (ATM) points, among others, so that criminals do not take undue advantage of the current COVID-19 challenge to perpetrate crimes against the citizens.

 Meanwhile, the CP has expressed profound gratitude to Adamawa State Journalists for their resilience and voluntary compliance with the social restriction orders and cooperation with the Police at all times.

CP Madaki Audu urged citizens to continue to observe all precautionary measures provided by the relevant health authorities to enable the state contain/ prevent the spread of the pandemic.
