Adamawa State Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adeyanju, has directed the Anti- Riot Police Unit of the Police Command to protect lives and property of the citizens in the wake ongoing nation wide protest against Special Anti-Robbery Squad(SARS).
However, the CP in compliance with the directives of the Inspector General of Police, ordered for immediate deployment of Anti-Riot Police Unit to checkmate the ongoing protest against the recent activities of SARS.
The CP tasked the Anti Riot Unit and Police Mobile Force to protect lives and property of the citizens as well as secure public/critical infrastructure in the State.
The CP in a statement by the Image Maker of the Command, DSP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, which was made available to NEWS PLATFORM on Wednesday, said that the massive deployment of Operatives is aimed at strengthening security around Police stations and Correctional facilities in the state.
According to the statement, the order followed an increase in attacks including acts of mischief and damage of public and private facilities nation wide by the protesters.
He urged on the Commander of Police Mobile Force 14/65 to identify and arrest law-breakers from peaceful protesters, and diligently prosecute such perpetrators of violence.
The CP has further called on the general public to avail the police with useful information that can lead to the re-arrest of the fleeing inmates unlawfully released from Correctional facilities.
CP Olugbenga Adeyanju, advised parents/guardians to caution their children/wards to steer clear of acts of violence and criminality, saying that the Command will not hesitate to invoke its powers to prevent any attempt to destroy lives and property of the citizens.
