Concerned by the plight of students across the state, the Adamawa state House of Assembly says it is considering legislating on a legislation that will make it compulsory for Governors to pay West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) and National Examination Council (NECO) fees for students in public schools.
According to hallowed chamber, a bill would be framed to that effect with a view to reducing burden on parents and guardians as well as create access to quality education for all by making it neccesary for Governors to settle the fees.
The Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aminu Iya Abbas, made this kmown while donating 28 vehicles including 4 ambulances and cash support to 600 women at Mararaba Mubi in Hong Local Government Area on Saturday.
NEWS PLATFORM recalled that the payment of WAEC and NECO fees was first introduced by erstwhile Governor Boni Haruna, but later suspended by former Governor Murtala Nyako who asked parents and guardians to fetch firewood and sell so as to raise money and pay the fees.
Nyako's policy on the fees which adversely affected many students as they could not be able to write their final exams was wholeheartedly adopted by the ex- single tenure Governor, Muhammad Umar Jibrilla Bindow, who ended his tenure without paying a dime.
But the Speaker had while addressing the gathering on Saturday, hinted that the 7th Asseembly under his able leadership is considering floating a bill that will make it compulsory for the state Governors to pay the fees for students that are writing WAEC and NECO.
Rt. Hon. Iya Abbas, disclosed that if the bill is passed and subsequently assented to by Governor Fintiri, would not only assist parents and guardians but create access to quality education, and assuring parents and guardians that the house is ready to legislate on things that will bring development in the state.
He reiterated that the house is committed to the provision of people oriented representation aimed at improving the living standard of their electorate and appealed for support to enable them succeed.
