To avoid breakdown of law and order, the Adamawa state House of Assembly on Monday, detailed 2 of its Committees to as matter urgency investigate land dispute between Kulinyi and Zumo communities in Hong and Song Local Government Areas respectively.

The Standing Committees mandated to look into the matter include; Land and Survey and Security and expected to submit report of its findings to the committee of whole in 2 weeks time.

Kulinyi and Zumo communities have been at daggers drawn for sometimes now over the boundary; hence, the practical steps by the hallowed chamber to put an end to the protracted dispute between the warring communities.

The action taken by the state Legislators followed a consideration of a petition filed by Kulinyi Concern Citizens for Peace and Development dated the 17th June, 2021 and signed by its Chairman and Secretary, Earnest Shuaibu and Chakukuyada Godwin, respectively.

The petition was earlier presented before the Honourable House for consideration by the Chairman House Standing Committee on Public Petitions and Electoral Matters, Hon. Adwawa Donglock, representing Guyuk constituency.

A copy of the petition in possession of NEWS PLATFORM,  appealed for urgent intervention to avert clash between the communities, pleading with the Assembly to constitute a special committee with a mandate to amicably resolve the matter.

It disclosed that the area of disagreement is called "Lafakin" which is situated in the southern part of Kulinyi, explaining that the area became part of Kulinyi since Colonial Masters and that the inhabitants mostly non-Kilba, are fondly called"Mbilla Kilba" and were paying their taxes to Kulinyi.

According to the document, in recent times, the people Zumo started laying claim of ownership of the area, alleging that the people who operate like a terror group: wearing military uniforms and bearing sophisticated weapons, launched a sustained physical assault on the people of Kulinyi, and denied them access to their farms.

It added that all efforts to resolve the disagreement peacefully proved abortive as there have been increased in hostilities, threats, physical assault, and on some occasions robbery where Kulinyi people were beaten up with their valuables carted away.

The petitioners alleged that they had lodged a formal complain at the Police headquaters Mubi Area Command where the perpetrastors were identified but refused to honour the invitation of the police, and lamented that the perpetrators could not be arrested by the police as required by law.

The petition further pleaded with the Assembly to seek officially gazetted documents such as maps of both Hong and Song at the National Population Commission and National Boundary Commission, and that it should compel the 2 District Heads to adhere unconditionally to the final resolutions of the committee by enforcing compliance.

They prayed the Assembly through the law enforcement agencies to enforce the restraining order pending the resolution of the committee, and any other measures deemed fit by the honourable house to bring about lasting solution to the problerm.
