A driver identified as David Donald has been remanded in prison custody in Yola, Adamawa state for the offence of cheating.
An Upper Area Court 4 sitting in Yola, issued the remand order after the accused pleaded quilty to the alleged offence contrary to section 302 of the penal code law.
David, who hails from Karin Lamido in Taraba State, was arraigned before Hon. Ibrahim Musa Ulenda, led Upper Area Court in Yola, by the Adamawa State Police Command.
The defendant had on the 21st February, 2024, at a local joint in Yola, ordered 5 plastic buckets of alcohol known as "Burkutu" as well as 2 plates of fish pepper soup.
After consuming the beer and eating 2 plates of fish pepper soup on the spot, David attempted to escape without paying a dime but was immediately intercepted.
Arraigning the defendant, the prosecuting police officer, Sgt Kabiru Abubakar, informed the court that the defendant dishonestly collected the beer and pepper soup valued N6,600, from Felicity Sunday and Linda Ali respectively.
According to him, the norminal complainants reported the matter to the police, accusing the defendant of refusing to settle their bills, instead attempted to escape.
