The Speaker Adamawa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Bathiya Wesley, on Wednesday, swore in Hon. Rufai Umar as new member representing Gombi constituency.
This development followed the annulment of the election of Hon. Japhet Kefas, of the Peoples Democratic Party by the Election Petitions Tribunal, the verdict which was affirmed by Court of Appeal.
The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja, nullified the election of Hon. Japhet, and declared Hon. Rufai Umar, of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as winner of the poll for the constituency.
Hon. Rufai, took the oath of allegiance and oath of membership administered by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Bathiya Wesley, during a plenary held at the Assembly Complex, in Yola today.
The Speaker congratulated him for a successful swearing as bonafide member of the 8th assembly and charged him to work with his colleagues regardless of party differences in the interest of the assembly and their respective constituencies.
Fielding questions from newsmen, shortly after his swearing, Hon. Rufai, thanked Allah and his constituents for making it possible to reclaim his mandate.
He assured of all encompassing representation that will make them feel the impact of his office as legislator.
He promised to sustain his legacies as one time lawmaker in meeting the yearnings and aspirations of his people through lobby and initiative.
The lawmaker called on his colleagues in the 8th assembly to work together regardless of party affiliations, maintaining that the work of legislature is beyond bending on party or geographical leanings .
