ADHA INSPECTS M/BELWA COMMUNITY AS WINDSTORM DESTROYS HOUSES

 



An Adhoc Committee of the Adamawa State House of Assembly on Thursday, undertook an on the spot assessment of both public and private structures destroyed by windstorm at Nasarawo Jereng in Mayo Belwa LGA.


The windstorm last week, destroyed several houses and also affected market square, Divisional Police Headquarters among others at Nasarawo Jereng.


The 7-Man Adhoc Committee headed by the Deputy Speaker of the assembly, Hon. Muhammed Buba Jijiwa, visited the community and commiserated with the victims of the natural disaster.


Hon. Jijiwa, who represents Jada Mbulo constituency was received by the "Wakili Gari" Ahmed Rufai Bello, some officials of Nasarawo Jereng Development Area, security agencies as well as some victims of the disaster.


Speaking at the palace of "Wakili Gari", the Deputy Speaker said that the committee was constituted and mandated by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Bathiya Wesley, to come and assess the damages.


Hon. Jijiwa, explained that the his committee was directed to visit the community, see things for itself and report back to the assembly for necessary action.


He said that the committee was set up following a matter of public importance raised at Monday plenary session by the member representing Nasarawo Binyeri constituency, Hon. Mohammed Babangida Njidda.


He sympathised with the victims and assured that the committee will filed a report for adoption for the intervention of relevant agencies and commended Hon. Njidda, for bringing up the matter.


Also speaking, the Minority Leader of the assembly, Hon. Suleiman Alkali(Yola North) said that the lawmakers were in the community to see things for themselves as well as commiserate with them.


On his part, Hon. Mohammed Babangida Njidda, stated that he had moved a motion for the intervention of the assembly, assuring that the government will intervene to cushion the effect of hardship being experienced.


Responding, the "Wakili Gari" Ahmed Rufai Bello, appreciated the assembly for the visit and thanked the member for sponsoring a motion to that effect, and assured him of the support to enable him succeed in his representation.


The committee has Hon. Muhammed Buba Jijiwa(Chairman), Hon. Suleiman Alkali(Yola North), Rt. Hon. Pwamwakeno Mackondo(Numan), Hon. Geoffrey  Bulus(Leko Koma) Hon. Ahmed Jingi Belel(Maiha), Hon. Musa Mahmud Kallamu(Mayo Bello) and Hon. Mohammed Babangida Njidda(Nasarawo Binyeri as members.
