N/EAST HUMANITARIAN HUB, USAID SENSITISE CSO, MEDIA ON FOI

The Northeast Humanitarian Innovation Hub in collaboration with USAID on Thursday, organized a town hall/consultative dialogue for Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) as well as Media Practitioners in Adamawa State.

The programme was organised primarily to sensitise CSOs as well as the media on Freedom of Information Act (FOI).

Speaking, one of the organisers of the event, Venessa Williams, dwelled on the Freedom of Information Act which was presented to the National Assembly in 1999.

She told the participants that it was later signed on the 28th May, 2011 and lamented that only 2 States out of 36 States have adopted the FOI Act .

According to her, the Act was intended to make public information records and document more freely accessible to citizens.

She said that the Act will hold government accountable and it will also promote transparency and good governance among others.

Another Speaker, Mr Steven who is from the Adamawa State Planning Commission said that the project technology hub is a for monitoring all the activities of the government.

Cross section of the participants commended the effort of the organisers of the event, saying that they have learnt enough from the event and promised to make use of the knowledge acquired.
