ADHA PASSES BILLS TO CREATE TRANSPORT BOARD, 1 OTHER

 


Adamawa State House of Assembly has passed a bill for a law to provide for the establishment of Transport Board and to provide for the Management, Operation of Urban, Intra-state, Inter-state and International Transport Service.


The Hon. Members have also passed a bill for a law to harmonise the allowances of the Local Government Finance Officers with their state counterparts and matters incidental thereto.


The passage of the bills followed motions for 3rd reading by the Majority Leader, Hon. Kate Raymond Mamuno, and seconded by Hon. Moses Yerima Zah (Michika) and Hon. ahmed Jingi Belel(Maiha).


After the passage of the bills, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Bathiya Wesley, directed the clerk to prepare a clean copies of the bills for Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri's assent.


The bills were sponsored by the Deputy Majority Leader and Member representing Maiha constituency, Hon. Ahmed Jingi Belel.


According to the member, the transport bill will play a key role in the economic, social development and promote transport services, adding that the legislation will go along way in addressing so many issues in order to have smooth transport sector.


He noted that the bill will bring all the trannsport unions under it, inprove security situation, inisisting that the bill is in the interest of the state.


The lawmaker added that the legislation will secure the lives and property of commuters, provide for an efficient regulation that will enable economic development through seamless movement of goods and people at affordable and competitive prices.


He noted that the legislation will also help in creating direct and indirect employment opportunities, reduce corrupt tendencies through direct payment of revenues to the Board of Internal Revenue and recovery by any staff found wanting.


On a bill for a law to harmonise the allowances of the Local Government Finance Officers with their state counterparts, Hon. Ahmed observed that the bill would not have come at better time than now considering the hardship faced by those targeted to benefit.


The lawmaker pointed out that the harmonisation of the allowanances of LGC Finance Officers is essential, saying that if assented to by the Governor will address shortage of staff in the treasury department and stop trasfer of service from LGC to the state.


He expressed happiness with the passage of the 2 bills and appreciated the Speaker and Hon. Members for their support towards the passage of the bills and stakeholders for furnishing him more inputs during public hearing.


He expressed optimism that the Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, will assent on what he described as people oriented bills for implementation.
