JUST IN: ADAMAWA POLICE NAB 40 "SHILA" BOYS, 18 OTHER SUSPECTS



In its renewed commitment towards curtailing crime and criminality in the society, the Adamawa State Police Command on Tuesday, paraded no fewer than 58 suspects for various offences. News Platform 


The suspects arrested include 40 "Shila" boys, 11 suspected kidnappers, 7 armed robbery suspects and recovered 1 Toyota Prado Jeep with reg. No. ABJ 344 HX,1 Hummer Bus reg. No. RSH 79 FA.


Other exhibits recovered include: 2 AK-47 with 25 rounds of live ammunitions, the sum of N10,690, polythene bag containing charms and rings, power bank and 2 GSM handsets.


Parading the suspects at the police headquarters, the Commissioner of Police, CP Dankombo Morris, said all the suspects were arrested following the renewed commitment of the command in fighting crime.


CP Morris said that all the suspects had confessed to the crime and will be charged to court accordingly, and stressed the determination of the command to curtailing crime.


He said when he took over the affairs of this command on the 14th February, 2024, he had made a promise to the good people of the state that he will fight crime and criminality to the barest minimum to ensure that the remnants of criminal elements have been flushed out of the State.


"As soon as I assumed duty, I assessed the security situation in the State and discovered that one of the major challenges we have is the menace of "Shila boys", a young group of armed men terrorising and making lives unbearable for the people.


"In a bid to checkmate their nefarious excesses, on the 16th March, 2024, the command in collaboration with the hunters launched a coordinated seamless operation at Sambisa forest here in Adamawa State. 


"The said Sambisa forest happened to be a safe haven for the "Shila"boys' activities. During this raiding operation about 40 Shila boys were arrested and dangerous weapons recovered from them. The case is still under investigation and the suspects will be charged to court as soon as investigation is concluded, he added.


He said on the 17th March, 2024, the Command Operatives (SID) and Tactical teams while on patrol intercepted and arrested five (5) armed robbery gangs within Jimeta who had robbed passengers and occupants of their vehicles from Taraba State and escaped to Adamawa State. 


"Equally, on the 5th this month, the command's operatives arrested some armed gang of kidnappers at Ngurore who had been terrorizing the area and its environs. Two (2) AK-47 rifles and 25 rounds of live ammunitions were recovered from the suspects.


"We will continue to collaborate and synergize with other security Agencies in the State, hunters and vigilantes, as partners in fighting against crimes and criminality", CP Morris explained.


He pleaded with the general public to note that security is every body's business, and if they see something, they should say something as a proactive measures to nip the problem in the bud.


CP Dankombo Morris thanked Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, and citizens for their continuous support to the command and solicited for their maximum support and cooperation in providing them with credible and timely information.
