JUST IN: YOLA HIGH COURT SENDS MAN TO 10 YEARS IN PRISON


A Yola High Court in Adamawa state has just sentenced a middle age man, Hassan Yahaya to 10 years imprisonment for killing one Bapeto Suleiman of Lainde village in Shelleng Local Government Area in the state.

Hassan Yahaya has been convicted for killing Bapeto in 2014 as a result of a fight that ensued between them over the seeds of sweet melon.

According to the prosecution, fight broke out between the deceased and the convict when the deceased bought a sweet melon and were eating it in front of Magaji's house with friends including the convict.

The prosecution added that when the deceased was eating the fruits, he was as well gathering it seeds in a polythene bag while other seeds were falling on the ground.

It added that the convict was also picking some of the seeds that were falling on the ground, but  the deceased told the convict to stop picking it, and in the cause of it fight broke out leading to the killing of Bapeto.

It added that the deceased brought out a knife and started stabbing him, and that the convict also brought out his own knife and stabbed the deceased to death.

Delivering its judgement on the matter after the counsel to the defendant pleaded for leniency, the Court presided by Honourable justice Abdul-Aziz Waziri sentenced Hassan Yahaya to 10 years imprisonment for the offence.

The court declared that the jail term will start counting as from 2014, and urged the convict to be of good behavior and not to engage in a fight anymore.
