ADAMAWA: GANYE LGC STAFF BEATS 36 YR OLD WIFE TO DEATH OVER N1000




A Staff of Ganye Local Gocernment Council in Adamawa State, Usman Hammawa, has been arrested by the operatives of the State Police Command for allegedly beating his wife, Rabiyatu Usman to death over N1000.


Usman who is 41 years old and resident of Jada Ward in Ganye LGA, was alleged to have beaten his 36 year old wife and mother of 5 to death during a fight between them over the amount.


A press statement by the Image Maker of the Police Command, DSP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, which was made available to NEWS PLATFORM on Thursday, said that the accused was arrested on the  22nd July, 2021 in Ganye following a report from a relative of the deceased.


DSP Nguroje said that the suspect engaged his late wife, Rabiyatu Usman in a fight following a little argument which ensued between them when the deceased demanded the refund of her One Thousand (N1000) naira from the accused.


"Angered by her action, the suspect applied force on his late wife by hitting her head on the wall as a result of which she fell down unconscious and was rushed to the Hospital where she was confirmed dead". He added..


According to him, the suspect was apprehended by the police in Ganye Local Government following report received from a relative of the deceased.


He stated that investigation so revealed that the suspect being a civil servant of Ganye Local Government Council had five (5) children with the deceased after 16years of marriage.


He added the Commissioner of Police, CP Aliyu Adamu Alhaji, had while commending the locals and the police for exposing and making difficult for criminal of such nature to escape justice; however, directed for discreet investigation into the matter and ensure that the suspect is prosecuted accordingly.


Meanwhile, as part of effort towards tackling crime and other related offences in the state, the CP deployed officers of Anti- Homicide unit to take over investigation and ensure law takes it course, and called on people to always report people of suspicious character around their neighbourhoods to police.
