Adamawa state Journalists have commended the effort of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, in combating security challenges in the state.
However, the media practitioners reminded the government that much is needed to be done in order to squarely address insecurity ranging from kidnapping, armed banditry and the nefarious activities of the dreaded "Shila" boys within the state capital.
The NUJ Members made the commendation in a communique issued at the end of a congress held at the press center on Saturday and signed by the Chairman Drafting Committee, Shekara Anthony, Secretary, Joy Diamond, Member, Nyahama Japhet as well as the Chairman of the Council, Ishaka Donald Dedan and the Secretary, Fidelis Jockthan.
The congress held that the issue of security should not be left in the hands of government alone, hence; the need for communities to make their own security arrangements aimed at complementing the effort of the government and security agents in dealing with the issue.
It further commended Governor Fintiri for introducing 'Operation Farauta' to help in fighting insecurity and however, emphasized on the need to screen members of the vigilante groups/local hunters to avoid infiltration of bad eggs.
The communique had while applauding Fintiri's led administration for its pragmatic approach to urban renewal projects, appealed to the governments at all levels to as a matter of urgency adopt practical measures to address poverty/high cost of living as a result of soaring prices of more especially food items.
Equally, it advised that skills acquisition centres should be revived to create job opportunities for the youth, develop sporting activities so as to reduce crime rate, and noted with satisfaction the creation of the Ministry of Entrepreneurship Development.
