Adamawa State Judiciary has submitted a bill for a law to provide for the Management of Funds Accruing to the State Judiciary from the Consolidated Revenue Fund of the State to ensure accountability, transparency, effective and efficient utilisation of the funds to the State House of Assembly for consideration and passage.
Already, the bill which is sponsored by the Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aminu Iya Abbas, and co-sponsored by 24 other members has been placed on notice during Wednesday's resumed plenary session after which it will be slated for 1st reading at the next legislative day.
Adamawa State Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) like other staff of the union across the country have been agitating for financial autonomy so as to be free to perform their functions effectively without fear or favour.
But as part of effort towards ensuring its independence, the union led by its Legal Adviser, Comrade Aminu Abdulkadir, stormed the hallowed chamber on Wednesday, and submitted its bill at the office of the Speaker of the Assembly, for consideration and passage.
Speaking exclusively to NEWS PLATFORM shortly after the submission of the bill, the Legal Adviser to JUSUN, Adamawa State Chapter, Comrade Aminu Abdulkadir, said that they came to Assembly primarily to submit their bill, explaining that the passage of the bill would make judiciary to perfom its functions effectively.
Comrade Aminu added that the staff went on strike for 7 weeks nation wide to press their home demand for the judiciary's financial autonomy, and that upon suspension of the industrial action, the committee constituted for the implementation of the autonomy mandated them to prepare a bill and transmit it to the house for enactment.
According to him, granting financial independence to the judiciary will ensure smooth running of judicial system in Adamawa State, and appealed to the Honourable Members to consider the importance of the bill and pass it in the interest of the state.
