BACHAMA KINGDOM PLEDGES SUPPORT AS YEDC SEEKS END TO POWER THEFT, VANDALISM

The Bachama Traditional Council in Adamawa State has pledged full support to Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC), emphasizing the critical role of electricity in sustaining livelihoods as well as businesses.

Equally, the council pledged to back the company on power asset protection, and appealed for greater community engagement to enable the company continue in rendering services to the public.

The council made this known during a stakeholder sensitization event in Numan LGA, aimed at raising awareness about the importance of safe guarding power assets and improving electricity supply.

This is contained in a statement by the YEDC Communication Officer, Blessing Tunoh, and made available to newsmen in Yola, Adamawa state.

The statement said that the council which was represented by the District Heads under the Bachama kingdom, reaffirmed their commitment towards safeguarding power infrastructure by creating local security mechanisms to prevent vandalism and other forms of asset damage.

She disclosed that the YEDC officials at the event engaged with the community leaders on issues ranging from the company’s services, including announcing the 24-hour customer service call centre, complaint redress mechanisms, feeder sensitisation and the banding system.

"The council was happy about the meeting and called for more stakeholder engagement opportunities to enable customers better understand and be involved in combatting power theft, vandalism and assaults on YEDC personnel—offences which carry strict legal implications, especially under the new Electricity Act.

"YEDC urges customers to increase their responses regarding bill payment to mitigate financial losses for the company which would impede replacing faulty equipment to improve supplies to homes and businesses within the council", said Blessing Tunoh.

She stated that the customers were further encouraged to adopt the company’s e-payment platforms, such as the BuyPower app or over-the-counter payments at YEDC offices; secure and efficient ways to settle their bills, reducing the risks associated with cash transactions.

She stated that in the absence of the Hama Bachama Dr. Daniel Shaga Ismail, the event was chaired by his Deputy, Kpana Linus Anonoma with District heads and the Numan Council Chairman, Hon. Innocent Koto in attendance.

Blessing Tunoh, said that the participants had expressed their  commitment to passing the information to their respective domains towards ensuring wider community awareness about the initiatives discussed.
