AGAIN, ADAMAWA CJ FREES 26 INMATES, ADMITS 13 TO BAIL



The Chief Judge Adamawa State, Hon. Justice Hafsat Abdulrahaman, on Tuesday, discharged 26 inmates awaiting trial and those convicted for various offences.


Hon. Justice Hafsat also granted bail to 13 inmates awaiting trial and reviewed sentences of 9 convicts serving various jail term downward. 


This brings to a total number of 38 inmates who were granted bail by the CJ since the commencement of the exercise.


So far, the CJ freed a total number of 68 inmates at Yolde Pate (Yola New) and Yola Old Correctional Centres in Yola South LGA. 


During the visit, several inmates awaiting trial were summarily tried and convicted after they had pleaded guilty to the offences mostly theft of which they accused. Some of them were sentenced to community service at police stations and health centres.


The CJ released the 26 inmates when the Adamawa Jail Delivery Committee which she is heading visited Yola Old Correctional Centre for the purpose of dicongesting prison.


Addressing those who regained their freedom shortly after the exercise, the Chief Judge, said that the committee has tempered justice with mercy and urged them to also do justice to the committee.


She advised them to be good citizens whenever they get back to the society and engage in legal businesses to earn a living and warned them not to engage in crime again.
