MILITARY, CUSTOMS BRUTALITY, KILLINGS IN MUBI SOUTH ANGERED ADHA



Adamawa State House of Assembly on Tuesday, raised serious concern about the brutality and killing of 2 young men by Military as well as Customs officers in Mubi South LGA.


The army and customs officers operating in Mubi South LGA were said to have shot and killed 2 of their victims who were on separate motorcycle at Nasarawo ward about 2 days ago. 


At its resumed sitting on Tuesday, the assembly strongly condemned the gruesome murder of the youngsters and extended its condolences to the families of the victims.

Equally, the assembly in its 4 points resolutions adopted during the sitting, advised the affected security agencies to carryout their activities with professionalism and should be at borders and not within the metropolis.


It urged the security agencies to address multiple checkpoints within Mubi and also directed its Committee on Security to liaise with the federal lawmakers to proffer lasting solution on the problem.


The above adopted prayers were earlier tabled before the assembly by the member representing Mubi South constituency, Hon. Sahabo Yohanna Jauro, while presenting his matter of urgent public importance.


Hon. Yohanna, had while moving the motion, informed his colleagues that some military men and customs officers shot and killed 2 of his constituents 2 days ago without any justification.


He explained that Mubi South LGA has 10 political wards out which 2 are at the LG headquaters while 8 are in rural areas, explaining that 8 wards are without filling stations for people to buy fuel for their cars, motorcycles among others for their day to day activities.


According to him, his constituents in the affected wards buy fuel from the metropolis and take it to the rural ares, lamenting that his electorate face alot of challenges from the military and customs officers while conveying the product to their communities.


He told the assembly that the security agencies have been harassing, intimidating and beating the peace loving people 

leading to death, narrating that in the case of the 2 boys, the security agencies opened fire on them after sighting them separately conveying fuel to their communities on motorcycles.


He pointed out that the victims of the security agencies transport fuel to their villages for use and not outside the LGA or the country, and warned that the action of the security agencies is getting out hand and that they cannot continue to condone it.


He stated that the security agencies cannot just go to his constituency and start shooting and killing people they should protect and urged the assembly to speak against it, adopt his prayers and call the authorities concern to order.


Speaking on the motion, Hon. Pwamwakeno Mackondo (Numan), condoled the member and his constituents, saying that the Constitution has guaranteed every citizen right to freedom of movement.


Also speaking, Hon. Abubakar Abdullahi of Girei constituency, said that the activities of the security agencies in Mubi South and Mubi North is becoming something else, saying that there are 86 checkpoints in Mubi which adversely affect business activities Mubi.


On her part, the Majority Leader of the assembly and member representing Demsa, Hon. Kate Raymond Mamuno, described the situation as unfortunate and worrisome and advised the security agencies to operate within the confine of law.


Baring his mind, the member representing Toungo constituency, Hon. Calvin Kefas, lamented a high level of extortion by the security agencies on high ways and called on the security agencies to be professional in their conduct.


After unanimous adoption of the resolutions, the Speaker of the assembly, Rt. Hon. Bathiya Wesley, who presided over the sitting, directed the clerk to the assembly to communicate the resolutions to the authorities concern.
