Adamawa HoS Assures of Extension of Paid Maternity Leave
The Head of Service (HoS), Adamawa State, Pharmacist Isa Ardo Shehu, on Friday, assured of his total support towards the extension of paid maternity leave for mothers.
Pharm. Isa Ardo, gave the assurance when he received a delegation from the Civil Society – Scaling Up Nutrition in Nigeria (CS-SUNN) on an advocacy visit in his office at the State Secretariat Complex.
He stressed the importance of paid maternity leave to enable mothers give the required attention to their new born babies in their first few months of life.
He further assured that he will call a meeting of all the Permanent Secretaries and deliberate on it in order to find a way of tabling it during the State Executive Council Meeting for considering and subsequent approval.
He pointed out that in the couple of days Adamawa State will adopt the 6 months paid maternity leave, saying, " To me, it should not be an issue of debate. I have had discussions with several people about it.
Speaking while leading the delegation, the State Coordinator CS-SUNN, Ngozika Ibhadode, said that the reason behind the visit is to advocate for the adoption child nutrition funds as well as extend paid maternity leave from 3 to 6 for mothers.
Ngozika revealed that the paid leave if approved and implemented to the later, will provide opportunity for mothers to breastfeed exclusively and regain their strength, urging the HoS to make use of his good office to support the adoption.
Lending his voice, the Programme Officer CS-SUNN, Ambrose Evhoesor, applauded the effort of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri led administration for an improved budgetary allocation for nutrition in 2024.
Ambrose expressed optimism that the Adamawa State Government will in no distant time adopt the 6 months maternity leave, and appealed to the Head of Service to do everything possible to ensure the adoption of the nutrition funds and paid maternity leave.
The delegation include the representative of Adamawa State Planning Commission, Programme Officer CS-SUNN, Isaac Dare Oguntade, Adamawa State Coordinator CS-SUNN, Ibrahim Bello among others.
