The Senator representing Adamawa North Senatorial District, Distinguished Senator Amos K. Yohanna, has been honored with an award of recognition for his significant contributions to the development of the Niger Delta region.  

The award was presented to him in his office by the President of the Urhobo Youths Council, Chief General Peter Aghogho, and the Secretary General, Chief Joseph Awolowo. 

The delegation commended Senator Yohanna for his commitment and dedication to regional development, particularly in his role as the Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Regional Development.  

Speaking during the presentation, Chief Aghogho praised the Senator’s efforts in advocating for policies and initiatives that positively impact the Niger Delta, noting that his contributions have been instrumental in addressing key developmental challenges in the region. 

Chief Awolowo also lauded his leadership, describing him as a statesman whose efforts transcend regional boundaries.  

Responding, Senator Yohanna expressed gratitude for the recognition, stating that the award serves as a motivation to continue working towards equitable development across all regions of the country. 

He reaffirmed his commitment to fostering policies that will bring lasting progress to the Niger Delta and Nigeria as a whole.

Song Lawmaker Launches Educational Support Scheme with 150 Students

The Member representing Song Constituency at the Adamawa State House of Assembly, Hon. Emmanuel Kefas, has launched educational support scheme for the benefit of indigent students studying at various higher institutions in the country.

So far, about 150 students cut across 11 political wards which comprise Song constituency on Thursday, smiled home scheme with scholarships disbursed by the lawmaker.

Speaking while flagging off the scheme at Song LGC Secretariat today, the Member representing Song Constituency, Hon. Emmanuel Kefas, appreciated his electorate for their support.

Hon. Emmanuel Kefas who is also the Chairman House Committee on Security, said that the gesture is the 1st batch and that very soon, he will reach out to other students to aid them in their educational pursuit.

He disclosed that the gesture was to complement the effort of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri in improving the standard of education in his constituency, hence, his decision to launch it in order to support the youth.

He explained that the beneficiaries were not selected based on personal interest as according to him, they had applied for it online, saying that the scheme has so far registered about 1,500 students.

The legislator assured that the scheme will also register students who have just enrolled into higher institutions to enable them benefit, and promised to continue in providing good representation.

In his remarks, the member representing Leko-Koma constituency at the assembly, Hon. Geoffrey Bulus, applauded his colleague for launching the scheme, saying that the indigent students will benefit from it.

Hon. Geoffrey, described education as the backbone of every developed society, saying that the resources disbursed to the students will help them in their educational pursuit for the progress of Song and Adamawa state in general.

Also speaking at the event, the Chairman Song LGC, Hon. Idris Yahaya, commended the lawmaker for launching the scheme for the benefit of his constituents, saying that the member has the love of his people at heart and that he will not relent in supporting them.

The Chairman stated that whenever people are educated, the society will develop and become healthy and habitable, saying that the member has been doing his best for his constituency.

Hon. Idris Yahaya, told the gathering that the effort of the lawmaker is to support the youth to acquire quality education for the betterment of their future.

In his welcome address, the Chairman People Democratic Party (PDP) Song LGA  Hon. Ishaku Bala, expressed gratitude to God for giving them leaders who have the love of their masses at heart.

Hon. Ishaku, commended the legislator for disbursing funds to the students, saying that whoever that has done well should be commended, and whoever that fails to do well should be corrected for the good of all.

He called on the beneficiaries and the entire Song constituency to continue to support the member and those on the position of authority.

Baring his mind, one of the  beneficiaries, Amana Kukta, said that the member has done well for the students, saying that the education is the only asset that will be given to the youth.

While appreciating the gesture, Amana Kukta, described the process as free and fair, saying that the beneficiaries applied on online; hence, the disbursement.

On their part, the Chairperson PDP Song Gari, representative of Women Yungur Zone and that of Mboi Zone, Hajiya Rukaiyatu Muhammed Yahaya, Mrs Maimuna Dabre, and Mrs Amina Sunday, thanked the member for the gesture.

Several stakeholders who spoke at the event, applauded the effort of the lawmaker and pledged their unwavering support to him, the Chairman of the LGC and Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri led administration.

2027 Guber Poll: Adamawa in Search of Grassroots Politician

In less than 24 months, the good people of Adamawa State will once again head to the polls to elect a new steward to pilot the affairs of the state for the next four years. This new leader will face a daunting task, as he will be succeeding an excellent performer—His Excellency, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri—who, in the last six years, has ticked all the boxes that define real development.

On multiple occasions, Governor Fintiri has made his stance clear: “My successor must be a grassroots politician.” This simple yet weighty statement has left many political pundits speculating, with some going as far as identifying individuals they believe fit the description. However, whether these predictions are accurate remains to be seen.

Regardless, there is a consensus that the next governor must have an excellent track record of performance and the capacity to build on the solid legacies of the current administration. The truth is, the bar of governance in Adamawa has been raised, and anyone who attempts to lower it will face stiff resistance from all quarters.

To demystify the concept of a grassroots politician, as postulated by Governor Fintiri, we must assess potential candidates based on capacity, character, and competence. The ideal leader must exude dexterity, agility, and adeptness. From the riverine Numan Federation to the swampy plains of Fufore, the sunny valleys of Fombina, the rugged hills of Pakka, and the historic paths of Sukur Kingdom, the next leader must embody the collective aspirations of the people.

The next Governor must possess a deep understanding of development economics to craft sustainable solutions to Adamawa’s fiscal and revenue challenges. He or she must have the intellectual stamina to analyze economic data and indices and how they impact the average citizen. The leader must be in touch with rural farmers to design policies that enhance agricultural productivity. Likewise, a keen understanding of the struggles of traders in remote communities is necessary to empower small and medium-scale enterprises, thereby boosting the state’s economy.

Moreover, Adamawa’s next leader must comprehend the complexities of climate change and global efforts to mitigate its effects. He or she must have a firm grasp of evolving trends in ICT and how young people in the state can leverage technology for empowerment and development.

As a people, we must align with Governor Fintiri’s vision by choosing a grassroots leader who sees our diversity as a strength rather than a divide to exploit. We need a leader whose philosophy is rooted in service delivery, not personal gain—someone who understands the struggles of the common man, has experienced firsthand the absence of basic amenities, and possesses the will and capacity to lift the people out of poverty.

Adamawa must choose wisely.

NPD: Police Conduct Sanitation Exercise in Adamawa

As part of the activities marking the National Police Day celebration, the men and officers of the Adamawa State Police Command on Wednesday, engaged in environmental sanitation and clean up exercise.

The personnel of the command started the sanitation exercise from Mubi roundabout to Doubeli bypass in Yola, Adamawa State Capital.

Speaking to newsmen during the exercise, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, said that the police in Adamawa State have complied with the directives of the IGP following the presidential approve of Police National Day.

SP Ngurore said that the Commissioner of Police, Dankombo Morris, had mandated police officers to go out for community service, saying that 2nd April has been set aside for sanitation exercise.

According to him, policing is not all about arresting and preventing crime and criminality but also about providing humanitarian services to the public.

He stated that the police belong to the public, and that they work hand in hand with the public for a peaceful society.

In their reaction, some residents of the state capital, Yahaya Cholli and Diyajo Girei commended the police for carrying the sanitation exercise.

ICPC to Host Stakeholders’ Meeting on Accountability, Corruption Prevention in LGs

 

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has announced a one-day Stakeholders' Meeting on the Accountability and Corruption Prevention Programme for Local Governments in Nigeria (ACPP-LG). 

This initiative aims to enhance financial management, transparency, and proactive disclosure at the local government level as announced by Demola Bakare, Director Public Enlightenment and Education / Spokesperson, ICPC

Over the years, the ICPC has actively engaged grassroots communities through various local government programmes and initiatives. 

These efforts have not only served as educational and awareness platforms but have also empowered citizens to identify and report corrupt practices. 

The launch of the ACPP-LG reinforces the ICPC’s ongoing commitment to fostering integrity, accountability, and transparency in local governance.

The Stakeholders’ Meeting will provide a platform for critical discussions on the challenges undermining local governance and introduce the ACPP-LG as a strategic tool for corruption prevention. 

The programme is designed to eliminate financial leakages, curb corrupt practices, ensure compliance with governance standards, and promote efficient, corruption-free service delivery at the grassroots level.

A key objective of the ACPP-LG is to restore public trust in the third tier of government by strengthening accountability mechanisms. 

The event will engage key stakeholders and leaders in local governance, particularly in the context of the recent Supreme Court ruling affirming the financial autonomy of local governments across Nigeria.

Adamawa Police Command to Inaugurate NPD, Offer Humanitarian Services

The Adamawa State Police Command is set to inaugurate the National Police Day which is expected to be celebrated every 7th of April, every year.

A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Dankombo Morris, said that the inauguration will take place today and invited all community members to join and celebrate occasion.

SP Ngurore, said that the event was initiated in response to the presidential directive to establish an annual National Police Day aimed at honouring the invaluable contributions and commitment of our police officers.

According to him, the command also seeks to strengthen community relations and enhance public trust through police /Community engagement.

He explained that from today 2nd to 7th, April, 2025, the Command will host a series of community engagement programmes designed to foster a spirit of collaboration and humanitarian services. 

The planned activities include Free Medical Service Outreach, Sanitation and Cleanup of Public Spaces,Town Hall Meeting with Critical Stakeholders.

Other activities are School Outreach: Campaign Against Cultism and Social Vices, and Walkathon for Strength and Partnership Building. 

He disclosed that the Police Boss is enthusiastic about the landmark event and is committed to ensuring a safe and secured environment, building and  promoting public trust and enhanced the well-being of our community.

"The Command is dedicated to celebrate National Police Day as an annual tradition honouring our officers while reinforcing their essential role in ensuring safety and promoting peace in the state.
