The Commissioner of Police, Adamawa State Command, Dankombo Morris, has ordered the deployment of personnel to protect lives and property ahead hardship protest scheduled for 7th April, 2025.
To this end, the CP has issued a directive to all command and officers within the command, alerting them to a planned nationwide protes.
This is contained in a release by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje and made available to News Platform.
He said that the directive comes in a wake of intelligence reports that some groups, operating under the guise of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), are preparing to mobilise protests across Nigeria to draw attention to what the organisers describe as the prevailing high cost of living and government suppression of free speech.
He explained that the affected groups have flooded social media platforms with narratives aimed at winning public sympathy, discrediting the government, and galvanising support for the protest.
"Experience has shown that criminals may want to seize the opportunity of the protests to cause mayhem, particularly by launching attacks on government facilities and disrupting socio-economic activities in the state among others.
"On the strength of that, the Commissioner of Police has ordered security measures to be beefed up around critical infrastructure and other strategic locations across the state to forestall any untoward development before, during, and after the proposed protest.
According to him, the deployment and operation is aimed at ensuring that the protest is carried out peacefully without any security breach.
He said that it is aimed at preventing criminals, hoodlums, and miscreants from hijacking the protest or committing any criminal act before, during, and after the protest.
"The notable points of convergence for the protest in the state particularly Labour House, public and private warehouses, PZ Roundabout, Aliyu Mustapha International Airport, marketplaces, Unity Flyover, Roundabouts, Doubeli Junction, Dougirei Junction, Jabbama Toll Gate, Jimeta-Girei Bridge, State House of Assembly, federal and state secretariats, media houses, Federal and State High Courts/Appeal Court Complex to be adequately secured and dominated by the police and other law enforcement agencies". He stated.
He stated that the deployment is to ensure all law-abiding citizens can go about their normal business without hindrance; to ensure the free flow of traffic and to guarantee the security of lives and property in the state before, during, and after the protest.
