COURT JAILS 4 "SHILA" BOYS 8 TO 14 YRS EACH FOR EXTORTING HERBALIST OF N2, 700



Four members of the dreaded "Shila" group were on Friday, convicted and sentenced between 8 to 14 years in prison each. 


They were sent to prison for the offences bordering criminal conspiracy, extortion and receiving stolen property which contravened sections 60, 282 and 307 of Adamawa penal code law.


Those convicted include; Musa Haruna of Airforce barracks, Samaila Abubakar of Demsawo ward, Hassan Musa of Rumde and Aliyu Adamu.


Haruna, Abubakar and Musa were sentenced to 7 years in prison for the offence of extortion and 1 year for criminal conspiracy punishable under sections 283 and 61 sub sections 1 and 2 of penal code law, and their conviction was without option of fine.


While Aliyu Adamu who also hails from Rumde ward and an uncle to the 3rd convict, was sentenced to 14 years in prison for receiving stolen property with an option of 100, 000 fine.


The sentences according to the court presided by Hon. Ibrahim Musa Ulenda, are to run concurrently.


The convicts were earlier arraigned before Hon. Ibrahim by the prosecutor, Seargent Kabiru Abubakar of Doubeli police station for the offences of which they pleaded guilty.


Seargent Kabiru, told the court that it was one Isa Shuaibu, of Jambutu ward in Yola North LGA, who reported at the Doubeli police station that the 3 convicts conspired and extorted his Techno cell phone LB6 valued N20, 000 and sold it to the fourth convict.


Isa, a herbalist who testified in court, narrated that Samaila Abubakar and Hassan Musa called him on phone on the 31st December, 2021 and asked him to meet them at palala junction.


He said that the duo had told him they wanted to buy some herbs from him because it was somebody who gave them his phone number, explaining that even after he had told them that it was already late, they pleaded with him to come to their help.


Isa said that he later met them at the junction by 8:30am and that upon his arrival, the 2 convicts grapped him, removed his ATM card and the sum of N2, 700 from his pocket and started beating him, and Haruna Abubakar, later arrived at the scene of the crime


NEWS PLATFORM gathered that after extorting the herbalist of his phone and money, they gave the phone to the third convict who later sold it to his uncle at the sum of N10, 000 only.


It was learnt that the phone was recovered from the 4rd convict who narrated how he got it, and assisted the police in arresting the 3 convicts; hence, their trial and conviction.
