MAN DISCHARGED AFTER SPENDING 3 YRS IN PRISON FOR RAPING BROTHER's WIFE



Thomas Yilafaru of Guyuk Local Government Area, Adamawa state has been discharged after spending over 3 years in prison for allegedly raping his younger brother's wife.


The Adamawa State Chief Judge, Hon. Justice Nathan Musa, on Monday, discharged the accused person during prison visit at the medium security custodial center Jimeta.


Yilafaru, has been in prison custody awaiting trial since 27th December, 2018, after his arraigment in 2018 before chief magistrate court 2 sitting in Yola. 


The accused told Justice Nathan, that he did not rape his in-law; instead, they had sexual intercourse with her consent, saying that he slept with her after she had agreed while working in her husband's farm.


He added that he went to assist them in the farm while his younger brother and her husband was away, and that while working in the farm, he saw her breast and got enticed.


He explained that he there and then told her that he loved her and also begged her to allow him have sex with her, and that she agreed and had sexual intercourse with her in the farm.


He narrated that it was somebody who was working in his farm that saw them while committing the act, and that it was the same person who also reported the incident; hence, his arrest and arraignment.


After considering his case, Justice Nathan, convicted him to 2 years in prison, saying that the jail term will start counting from the day of his remand, and however warned him not commit crime again.
