A 25 year old mechanic, Innocent Joseph, has been remanded in a prison custody for allegedly defiling an 11 year old girl(names withheld).
Innocent, however, blamed his action on the devil, saying "it was the devil who made me to do so".
The chief magistrate court 1 Yola, Adamawa state ordered the remand of the accused person after he admitted committing the crime which contravened section 211 of the penal code law.
The defendant who hails from Unguwan Sama, Hayin Gada in Girei Local Government Area, was apprehended and arraigned before the court by the state police command.
When the substance of the offence was read and interpreted to him as prayed by the prosecutor, Seargent Sawe Nicholas, the accused person pleaded guilty to the alleged offence.
He told Chief Magistrate Mohammed Abdullahi Digil, that it was the devil who made him to defile the little girl.
Earlier, Sgt Nicholas, who appeared for the prosecution informed the court that the defendant allegedly lured the girl into his room by 11:00am on the 28th December, 2021 and forcefully had sexual intercourse with her.
After the case was mentioned, the prosecutor told the court that the offence is capital in nature, and the matter be adjourned to enable them complete investigation, and transmit case file to the DPP for legal advice.
Ruling on the application, magistrate Digil, said that the court has accepted the case for prosecution and ordered the police to complete investigation.
The judge ordered that the defendant be remanded in prison custody and adjourned the matter to the 26th January, 2022.
