A 42 year old Muhammad Sambo, accused of killing his wife as well as inviting women to bath and bury her dead body has been remanded in prison custody in Yola, Adamawa state.
Muhammad, who hails from Sorau Belel in Maiha Local Government Area, Adamawa state was arrested and arraigned in court for allegedly killing his wife simply identified as Fadimatu Sambo.
When he was arraigned before Chief Magistrate court 1 in Yola on Friday, the accused person pleaded not guilty to 1 count charge of culpable homicide contrary to section 191 of the penal code law.
It was Seargent Ahmed Abubakar, the prosecutor, who arraigned Muhammad before the court for the offence which he denied committing it after the First Information Report was read to him as earlier prayed by the prosecutor.
Muhammad, according to the report violently attacked his dear wife on the 9th September, 2022, and secretly invited women to come and bath the dead body in order to bury it.
According to the prosecutor, it was one Jauro Sale of Sorau Belel who reported the heinous incident to police on the same date by 7:00pm, where he briefed the police on the incident.
Jauro Saleh told the police that late Fadimatu was found lying uncounscious in her bed room with her head in a pool of blood with marks of violent attack on the head and the entire body.
He narrated to the police that when the victim was rushed to the hospital for medical attention, she was certified dead by the medical doctor, and that investigation led to the arrest of the husband.
NEWS PLATFORM learnt that after the husband was arrested in connection to the alleged offence, he narrated that he was not the one who killed Fadimatu, and insisted that he was not in the community when it happened.
Muhammad explained that he was at the Pasiyo market in Cameroon republic when the incident occured, saying that it was one Abdullahi Mamsa, who informed him about the killing of his wife when he returned from Cameroon by 4:00pm on that fateful day.
NEWS PLATFORM gathered that what actually made people around the area to suspect that it was the husband who killed her was his secret invitation of women to quickly bath and bury the corpse.
It was after he pleaded not guilty when arraigned in court that the judge, Chief Magistrate Muhammed Abdullahi Digil, ordered that the defendant be remanded in prison custody.
Magistrate Digil ordered the prosecution to trasnsmit case file to DPP for legal advice and adjourned the matter 16th February, 2022.
