MAN, 22 SENTENCED 5 YRS FOR KILLING FRIEND IN BEER PALOUR IN ADAMAWA



A 22 year old man, David Geoffrey, has been convicted and sentenced to 5 years in prison without option of fine for killing his friend during a fight in a beer parlour.


Hon. Justice Nathan Musa, Adamawa state Chief Judge, sentenced David of Waduku in Lamurde Local Government Area, Adamawa state on Monday, when he visited Jimeta correctional centre in the state capital.


Earlier, when the convict appeared before Justice Nathan, he narrated that fight ensued between him and the deceased who happened to be his friend, and that he broke a bottle of beer on the deceased's head which led to his untimely death.


NEWS PLATFORM who was in prison learnt that it was the convict who invited the deceased to come down to Tingno in Lamurde LGA so as to drink beer during which fight ensued between them.


David, in case number y/103cl/2020, was said to have committed the offence in the year 2020, and that he was arraigned before chief magistrate court 1 in Yola and remanded in prison on the 16th October, 2020.


So far, the convict has spent 1 year and 3 months in prison custody for the offence of culpable homicide contrary to section 191 of the state penal code law 2018.


While considering his case and his plea of guilt, Justice Nathan, convicted the accused and sentenced him to 5 years behind bars without option of fine.
