Adamawa State House of Assembly has pledged to enact laws aimed at tackling security challenges bedeveilling the society.
The Speaker of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aminu Iya Abbas, made the pledge on Monday, while declaring open a public hearing on a bill for a law to establish the State Security Trust Fund organised by the committee on security and held the committee room of the assembly.
Rt. Hon. Iya Abbas, told the gathering that the the issue of insecurity is everybody's business and reiterated the commitment of the assembly to enacting laws with a view to curtailing it, calling on government to continue to support security agencies to enable them succed.
The speaker who was represented by the Deputy Majority Leader of the assembly, Hon. Japhet Kefas (Gombi constituency), said that security cannot be left in the hands security agencies alone, saying that the assembly will continue to liaise with the executive arm towards addressing it.
While presenting the general principles of the bill before the gathering, the sponsor, Hon. Abubakar Isa(Shelleng), said that the committee will ensure that the inputs of the stakeholders are considered to enable them enact an acceptable law that will improve the security of lives and property.
Hon. Isa, declared that the bill on a law to establish Security Trust Fund 2020, seeks to provide for comprehensive means of generating funds, instilling deligence, transparency, accountability and professionalism in the funding and management of state security apparatus.
According to him, it is important to look inward in order to proffer lasting solution on the security situation in the state, explaining that it not only necessary and timely but mandatory considering the level of insecurity in the society.
He added that if the bill is passed into law will provide objective of the fund including the provision of funds, acquisition, deployment of security equipment and effective functioning of all Federal, State, Local Government and other security agencies operating in the state
In their separate contributions, the representative of security agencies in the state, commended the assembly particularly the sponsor of the bill for his foresight, saying that the bill if passed into law will bring tremendous improvement on security situation in the state.
On their part, the representatives of property owners, religious leaders non governmental organizations and in particular the Board of Internal Revenue, applauded the assembly for initiating the bill and pledged their support.
