In continuation of prison decongestion in Adamawa State, the Jail Delivery Committee headed by Chief Judge, Hon. Justice Nathan Musa, has stormed Mubi and Maiha prisons respectively and set free 31 inmates including 6 women.
During its assignment in Mubi correctional centre on Monday, the Hon. committee discharged 25 inmates including 5 women, summarily convicted 6, granted bail to 1 and reviewed 6 sentences downward.
Hon. Justice Nathan's Committee was also at Maiha correctional centre where it met 37 inmates at the correctional centre and released 6 men and a woman.
This brings total number of 240 inmates so far discharged at the Jimeta, Yola town, Mubi and Maiha Custodial Centres of the Nigerian Correctional Service since the committee has embarked on its assignment last week.
Speaking after prison decongestion in Mubi and Maiha LGAs respectively, Hon. Justice Nathan Musa and Chairman of the committee, explained that some of the inmates discharged were wrongly convicted, others stayed long awaiting trial, while some were detained on civil matters.
Justice Nathan, advised them to be law abiding citizens, and that the committee does not want to see them at any of the correctional centres again, appealing to them to go and engage themselves in a meaningful businesses.
The CJ who was also at the palace of the Emir of Mubi, Alh. Dr. Abubakar Isa Ahmadu, on a courtesy call, briefed the royal father on the activities of the committee, and what it has done in Mubi.
He told the royal father that the judiciary is set to establish high court number 2 in Mubi before rainy season to fast tract justice, and called on him to liaise with the Chairman Transition Committee of the LGC to allocate a befitting environment to the judiciary for the establishment of the court.
Responding, the Emir of Mubi said that he has been hearing good news about the good works of the CJ, and gave him kudos for turning around the judiciary within short period of time.
Alh. Dr. Isa Ahmadu, said that he is convinced that Justice Nathan, is out to work not only for the judiciary but the entire state, and charged the judges under him to be honest and just to all citizens.
According to him, the CJ is a good leader and needed those under him to be good also so as to succeed, and described the step taken by the CJ to establish high court number 2 in Mubi as a welcome development.
The CJ who was also at Mubi North LG secretariat on courtesy call on the Transition Committee Chairman, informed the Chairman that he was briefed by the prison officials on the challeges of the inmates, and appealed to him to reach out to them with drugs and other hygiene accessories.
Responding, the Chairman Transition Committee of Mubi North LGC, Hon. Mohammed Garga Mams, thanked the delegation for the visit, and promised to reach out to the inmates with assistance as soon as possible.
