LG POLLS: ADAMAWA SIEC ISSUES 90 DAYS ELECTION NOTICE

Adamawa State Independent Electoral Commission (ADSIEC) on Monday, issued 90 days election notice for the conduct of Local Government Councils elections in the state.

The commission in a release signed by its Chairman, Alhaji Isa Shettima, and made available to NEWS PLATFORM by its Information Officer, Innocent Daniel Zira, said that the election notice commences on the 10th January, to 9th April, 2022 as required by LG administration Law.

It could be recalled that the commission had earlier proposed 4th December, 2021 for the conduct of LG elections due to the expiration of the tenure of the immediate past chairmen on the 8th December, 2021, in line with the legal provision of 2 years tenure.

According to the commission, the prevailing circumstances before and during the period including the destruction of reusable election materials by " End Sars" demonstrators, conversion of voting points into polling units and registration of new voters by INEC among others, increased election estimate far and above the 2021, budget.

Alhaji Shettima, disclosed that it was against this backdrop that the preparations for the conduct of the LGC elections earlier slated for 4th December, 2021 were suspended.

He explained that the State Government has made adequate provisions for the electoral body to proceed and conduct elections; hence, the issuance of the 90 days election notice to all Registered Political Parties (RPP) in the state.

Alhaji Isa Shettima, added that the details about the election will be provided in due course.
