As part of effort to check lapses in Adamawa state laws, the Chief Judge, Hon. Justice Nathan Musa, has inaugurated 7-man committee for the review of the Penal Code law and Administration of Criminal Justice Law 2018.
The committee has Hon. Justice S. L. Kaynson, as chairman, and Hon. Dimas Elishama Gwama, Barr. G. C. Adikwu, Barr. Abdulrahaman Iliyasu Maks, Barr. Hassan Maidawa and Barr. Fatima Bello Raji as members, while Hon. Jackson Jaridai Kalakala is to serve as secretary.
Speaking while inaugurating the committee in Yola on Tuesday, Justice Nathan, stated that the inauguration of the committee became imperative in view of the need check the lapses.
He observed that the 2 laws more especially the penal code law has created more hardship and lapses which was enacted to cure.
According to him, most of the provisions of PC are not in tandem with the implementation ACJL more especially the provisions relating to mandatory sentences among others.
He told the committee that for effective implementation of ACJL 2018, certain provisions of penal code law must be amended or review in order to give room for the exercise of discretions in the award of punishments.
"I believe that with the inauguration of this committee, such lapses will be taken care of since the committee comprises of able personalities under the chairmanship of Hon. Justice S. L. Kaynson". Justice Nathan stated.
