The Director of Phil-Ednith Edinihek Nigeria, Kehinde Adeola Ajayi, has confessed to have converted N4.6million convention money of the 1st Baptist Church Jimeta/Yola, Adamawa state.
Kehinde, however explained that he did not convert the convention money to his personal use; instead, he sank it into his phil-ednith edinihek private business organisation.
NEWS PLATFORM learnt that the business organisation has since collapsed in spite of injecting Yola Baptist Convention money, leaving behind tales of woe.
Already, the 46 year old accused who hails from Ibadan, Oyo state has been remanded in Yola prison custody for the alleged offence which he admitted committing it.
He was earlier arraigned before the chief magistrate court I for "criminal breach of trust and cheating" contrary to sections 302 and 312 of the state penal code law.
The prosecutor, Inspector Abdullahi Hamza, told the court that it was Rev Ibrahim Audu Kukui, of the 1st Baptist Church Yola who reported the matter to the police on the 16th November, 2021.
Rev Ibrahim Kukui, reported that he personally paid the sum of N4.6million into fidelity bank number: 4010630366, bearing phil-ednith edinihek Nigeria belonging to Kehinde, sometimes in 2019.
He narrated that the money was paid to facilitate the airlift of members of the 1st Baptist Church Yola to attend the convention earlier scheduled to hold in Lagos state.
According to him, the convention was later postponed due 2019 lockdown as a result of the dreaded covid-19 pandemic, but that all effort to recover the money from the Director proved abortive.
He averred that he was left with no option than to lay a complaint before the police; hence, the arrest of the defendant and his arraignment.
It was after the defendant's plea that the court presided by chief magistrate Muhammed Abdullahi Digil, ordered that he should be remanded and subsequently adjourned the case to the 2nd February, 2022.
However, Magistrate Digil, has urged the prosecution to call 1 or 2 witnesses for the purpose of corroboration and summary trial of the defendant.
