FLOOD KILLS 6, DISPLACES 2,000 IN GOVERNOR FINTIRI'S LGA




Flood has wreaked havoc in several communities in Madagali Local Government Area, Adamawa state, submerging many houses and farmlands.


The incident which claimed 6 lives, displaced over 2,000 people, destroyed houses, bridge, foodstuffs and other valuable property in the affected communities.


Worst hit communities include Kichinga, the hometown of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, Mildu, Maradi, Mayo Wandu, Shuware, Pambla 2, and Palam in the LGA.


Confirming the incident in an interview with newsmen, the Executive Chairman Madagali LGC, Hon. Simon Musa, said that some affected communities have never experienced such incident in their histroy.


Hon. Simon, explained that thousands of people displaced by the flooding are currently seeking refuge at 10 temporary camps established so far.


He attributed the cause of the flooding to a heavy downpour which resulted to flooding from the Mandara mountain damaging Shuwa Bridge, houses, foodstuff, farmlands as well as causing erosion.


He said, " It has been raining for Four (4) consecutive days in Mandara mountain, down to Shuwa and other communities where people lost their lives and property destroyed".

He therefore appealed to the Federal and the State Governments as well as Humanitarian agencies to come to the aid of the affected communities.


Also speaking the Village Head of Shuwa, Mustafa Mohammed Sanusi, described the incident as unfortunate and pathetic, pleaded with the Government to intervene.
