The National Vice President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Zare Baba, has cheated death as some overzealous officers of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) threatened to kill him.
The officers reportedly assaulted and pulled gun at the Vice President in charge of Zone E which comprises Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba and Yobe States, at the NUJ Press Centre in Yola, Adamawa State.
Comrade Zare who was at the Secretariat of the NUJ on Wednesday, in the evening, approached a drunk official of the NDLEA who was urinating at the gate of the Computer Centre at Secretariat and advised him to use available rest room.
According to reports, the piece of advice official did not go down well with the personnel as a result of which he put an emergency call on his colleagues to teach the NUJ official a lesson.
It was learnt that an official of the NDLEA dragged the NUJ Vice President and battered him while another pulled a gun at him, shot and deflated all the tyres of his vehicle and threatened to kill him.
Report published by New Herald said it took the intervention of Journalists and Secretariat Staff around who calmed the gun wielding official.
Narrating his ordeal, Comrade Zare said," the two NDLEA officials attempted to murder me when one of them rushed and picked up his pistol threatening to shoot me."
"The officer shot and deflated the tyres of my car with his pistol and threatened to come back and deal with him", he added.
Efforts to get the reaction of NDLEA was not successful at the time of the press.
